Description

The 1976 Formosa 41 Ketch, S/V “OSPREY” was anchored in Bellingham Bay portion of the Puget Sound near Bellingham, WA, on Saturday, September 28, 2019. The wind conditions strengthened during the day on Saturday with wind gusts exceeding 40mph. While the insured were away from the vessel, the wind direction changed from South East to North causing the vessel to swing on its anchor. During this process, the anchor pulled free from the sea bottom, and the wind began to blow the vessel toward the dock. The vessel eventually collided with the ferry terminal, and was pinned against the dock structure for several hours while it rocked back & forth violently as wind conditions continued to be severe. The Insured monitored the situation throughout the afternoon, and was eventually able to board the vessel & power it away from the dock structure after the weather conditions had improved in the evening.

The vessel is severely damaged.
